10/16/15 – “Media” is the means of communication, as radio and television,newspapers, and magazines, that reach or influence people widely.

Provide the name for three examples of media you use:

7th Grade

10/16/15 – DO NOW: The “Internet” is a global network of networks linked together in order to share information.

Using a complete sentence provide at least two examples of how you have used the Internet to share information.


I CAN…examine (look at; inspect) the lessons and information on the FBI Safe Surfing site and complete (finish; end) the exam with a score of 80% or higher.

1. Go to the FBI Safe Surfing Site, scroll down a hair to find your grade, 7th Grade then click on it.

2. Click on STUDENTS in the menu bar along the top, then follow the instructions and complete lessons 1-8. DO NOT CLICK ON TAKE THE EXAM until you have completed all the lessons. You will likely be ready tomorrow. You can only take the exam once and it will count toward your grade.

3. I have your KEY CODE that you will need to take the exam, each person has a different key code.

4. If by some miracle you are finished today (extremely unlikely)…play Digizen, “Are you a responsible Digital Citizen?” <—

10/15/15 – DO NOW  – Use each of the following definitions for code in correct and complete sentences (NOTE you will be writing 2 different sentences).\

1. The definition of “Code” as a noun is: The instructions for a computer program.

2. The definition of “Code” as a verb is: The act of writing a program.


We are going to start our project development today. Today’s assignment is to begin exploring some of the platform options that are available. Look at the chart in the link below and decide what it is you want to create or what it is that you want to learn.

10/15/15 – DO NOW: A “search engine” is software that uses keywords or phrases to locate information from Web sites.List at least 3 search engines you know of. Hint: We will use a very well known one today.

I CAN . . . navigate (steer; drive) Google Chrome, examine (look at; inspect) applications & extensions, & add them to my browser.

1. Watch the video on Social Networking from NSTeens on the projector. 

2. Discussion about what to know about on Social Media and what should be reported.

3. Students will complete the Bingo Mixer. This will be a hard copy that will be passed out.

4. After the mixer we will go over the Chrome Browser

Things we need to cover today include:

Logging into the Chrome Browser, Tabs, Home Tabs, Navigating Tabs, OneTab, Applications, Extensions

Adding Applications:

Hapara, Gmail, Docs, Forms, Slides, QR Generator

Adding & Using Extensions:

Save to Google Drive, Screenshot Capture & Annotate, OneTab, Split Screen

10/14/15 – DO NOW –  “Courage” is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., even in-spite of fear.

Always answer in complete sentences with proper grammar. How can caring be something courageous?

10/14/15 – DO NOW: The definition of “bookmark” is to save the URL of a Web page for easy access in the future.

Finish the assignment from yesterday on class rules. DO the following starting with the letter A below.

Class Procedures:

  1. We only touch the computer we are logged into.
  2. We never turn off a computer unless asked by the teacher.
  3. We are always working on the assignment for that day and nothing else.
  4. We never go to any website or application without permission, inappropriate or otherwise.
  5. We always save with the correct filename. firstL_classProcedures (Example vinnyC_classProcedures).
  6. When needing help or feeling stuck we use the “Ask Three Then Me” method, ask three of your peers before asking me.
  7. We always ask before touching any of the cool stuff in this classroom.
  8. We are always dismissed by the teacher in the room, not the bell
  9. At the end of class we log off, place the keyboard on the computer, place headphones on back of monitor, & tuck in chairs.

A. Class Rules Assignment:

Follow each step in order numbered order.

1. Open a new Word document.
2. Locate your (H:) drive. It usually starts with your 19# (login number)
3. Create a new folder and name it “7thGradeCS”.
4. Save your new document with the correct filename: FirstL_Rules (Example VinnyC_Rules)
5. Copy class procedures from above and paste them into the document.
6. After each class procedure provide an example of someone breaking that rule.

7th Grade –  Welcome to Computer Science!!

THIS IS OUR DAILY PROCEDURE:
1. Login to the Computer
2. Click on the Chrome Browser & Sign into Google Chrome
3. Then go to the class blog: https://techedteaching.wordpress.com/
4. Complete the Do Now in your Interactive log
5. ALWAYS READ ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE STARTING
  • You will use the same Google Doc for every DO NOW.

Follow these directions to get to your DO NOW Interactive log:

1. Go to your Google Drive: Click on the waffle looking square in the top left corner. Then select the Google Drive app.

2. Then select the folder that says Z-Middle All-“LASTNAME”, “FIRST”

3. You will see a Google Doc that says, DO NOW Interactive Log.

4. Open that document and READ to see how you will submit the daily DO NOW.

The part you will copy and paste into the Interactive Log is below and will be a different color then everything else on the day’s blog post:
